It’s My Birthday Weekend!
I’m officially in my late twenties… 😧 ahh it hurts to even say out loud. You don’t have to tell me that I’m being dramatic… I already know. To celebrate the beginning of my late twenties, I wanted to go to Tennessee… Chattanooga Tennessee. To me, Chattanooga is one of those magical little underrated cities. It’s only about 3 hours from Tuscaloosa. After driving to northern Michigan last week, I feel like a three-hour drive is like no time at all.
So what did we do?
We did what you are supposed to do when you visit a city. WE ATE! And eat we did.
We Stayed At…
We stayed at the Holiday Inn in downtown Chattanooga. Wow it was nice… a little too nice for my liking but damn was that bed soft. No free breakfast, so do you even consider it a nice hotel?
Best Pizza 🍕 Ever….
We started out at a place called Community Pie. Y’all. This was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. They server true New York style pizza🍕. IT WAS AMAZING. I’m still laughing at the image of the hubby just devouring his pizza. This for-real is his favorite kind of pizza…. He was in heaven y’all.
What all did we order?
- Pizza knots
- Three slices of cheese pizza
- One slice pepperoni pizza
- AND of course… 🍨 chocolate gelato that the restaurant makes homemade 🍨
Yes, I was in a food comma immediately. But it was worth EVERY SINGLE BITE.
Hole in the wall bar….
That night we hit up a bar called Hair of the Dog. This is a hole in the wall kind of bar, but those are my favorite kind of bars. Hair of the Dog is on Chestnut, so it’s really convenient if you are staying downtown, which we did. It’s a two story bar. Downstairs has a bunch of booths and lounging areas, and upstairs has more lounging, pool table, and darts. It’s a pretty chill place that was perfect for the hubby and I.
And then… the vegan 🌿 restaurant
So you guys are reading this blog because, well you probably like reading blogs. I also like to read blogs and I LOVE to get recommendations from other bloggers, especially travel bloggers who recommend/review local food joints. Well, I found an all vegan restaurant. Yall know I was vegan for a long time, (now vegetarian) and this made my heart happy. We obvi went there for lunch.
It was called Sluggos Vegetarian Restaurant. This place was not located downtown. I mean duh, of course… why would it be conveniently downtown… damn hipsters.
What did we order?
I got the walnut and lentil burger with a side of cheesy potato soup & the hubby got the hot wang creamy dill wrap with a side of potatoes & gravy. Both had a side salad, both were delicious. It’s hard to say what was my favorite because it was all so dang good… but I think the cheesy potato soup won in my heart. For the hubby, the spicy wang wrap won.
That View Though….
After lunch we went hiking… we originally discussed going on an brisk walk, but we soon figured out that this hike/trail was not what we thought. This trail was tough. The trailhead was called Rainbow lake. There are a few different trail options. We choose the trail that took us to rainbow lake, then to Rainbow Falls, then over to Julia Falls Overlook. Soooo Pretty!
Our little adventure ended up being around 4 miles, over 10,000 steps and roughly 44 stories high. :O Let’s just say we were dead tired after this hike.
We needed a beer 🍻…
After our hike, we did not want to go straight to the hotel, so we ventured over to Southside Social. This is an all-in-one kind of place. This place has a trampoline jump house, a bowling alley, several game rooms, a “mirrorless” bathroom. When I say mirrorless, I mean there is only a whole in the wall between the bathrooms where a mirror is supposed to be there. It’s tripping AF. Listen when I say this, you are just going to have to see it in person to understand… truly understand.
We hung out at Southside Social only for an hour or so. We caught the last of the AMAZING Michigan Game, #GoBLue, ordered some local brown ales and munched on some incredible fried pickles. Basic, yes. But it was great.
On the way to dinner we found this alley way and it had the awesome block wall… We had to partake. Well I’m officially a Michigan fan now, so in honor of the Michigan win, we left a big block M on that wall (Really Awesome Time Lapse Below) #goblue
For dinner, we went to Blue Water Grill. Not going to lie, this place was my least favorite of the restaurants. I don’t really know how to describe it other than… touristy. It’s on the side of downtown that is really close to the aquarium, which is super touristy. So it had decent food at a really pretty price. Not up my alley. But it wasn’t bad.
After dinner we went back to Hair of The Dog…. I really liked that place. We drank to much tequila, laughed about our past, got excited for the future, and blacked out together. This was very random, but I it was with my best friend so I’m not mad about it at all.
Other than the extremely hungover drive home, it was one fantastic weekend. It was the first time the hubby had ever been to Chattanooga and that was so special to me.
All in all I had a great weekend
Have you ever been to Chattanooga!? What is your favorite part about #Nooga!?
